SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The annual Savannah Salutes: Survivor Tribute and Celebration of Life event took place at American Legion Post 135.

The event honors the sacrifices of our Gold Star families.

Those are families of service members who have died during conflict.

Friday’s event included a meeting with the mayor lunch and a trolley tour showing what Savannah has to offer.

“A lot of these guys have spent their entire career working up, rolling out and serving the country and really didnt get a good shot at community,” said Greg Kindred, Commander, American Legion Post 135. “So now we want to make sure they understand what’s available in the community, and vice versa.”

About 50 survivors and family members gather for the special event Friday.
