Chatham County District Attorney Shalena Cook Jones said after hearing the evidence, the Chatham County Grand Jury found probable cause to charge the suspects.

The six suspects indicted are:

  • Royce Lebraun Haynes
  • Aujawan Tyrell Hymon Jr.
  • Dahmil Johnson
  • Johnathan Elijah Jones
  • Theron Johnathan Robbins Jr.
  • Franklin Leonard James

All six suspects are accused of felony murder in connection to the death of Olislene “Tina” Smith.

The six suspects were also charged with aggravated assault, unlawful gang activity and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

The DA says several of the defendants were under the age of 18 at the time of the offense, but will all be tried as adults.

The 71-count indictment also includes several counts of “Unlawful Criminal Gang Activity” against each suspect in various ways.

The Chatham County District Attorney’s Office cannot provide further commentary on the case because it is a pending criminal matter and the indictment speaks for itself. District Attorney Jones thanks all first responders, Detectives Kruwel and Hesting, and all officers, law enforcement agencies and prosecutors who have worked hard on the case thus far bringing the defendants into custody safely and swiftly and preparing the case for court.

Jonah Pine, Dahmil Johnson’s attorney, made a statement about Wednesday’s indictment:

Given the nature of the politics of this case, I’m grateful  they didn’t come up with 171 counts. I suppose they forgot the kitchen sink.
