7th annual Juneteenth Freedom Day Celebration held in Mitchellville Community

RIDGELAND, Sc. (WTOC) - The 7th annual Juneteenth Freedom Day Celebration event was held on Saturday in the Mitchellville Community on Mango Drive.
Courteney Simmons, organizer of the event, said, “I didn’t expect for it to grow like it has been, so I’m very grateful that everybody comes out and it’s peaceful.”
Organizers said it was to honor the past and inspire the future through activities, vendors, and educational opportunities for all to learn about the significance of the holiday.
“I started doing Juneteenth in memory of one of my friend who passed away. She always wanted to do a Juneteenth celebration and we lost her back in 2020 to COVID.”
