6-year-old killed in UTV rollover in Appling County

APPLING COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - A 6-year-old passenger died Friday evening after a utility terrain vehicle overturned on Piney Bluff Road, according to Appling County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to the scene at around 8:51 p.m. on July 3 and requested help from Georgia State Patrol upon arrival.

What happened

According to a Georgia State Patrol report, the driver of a Trailmaster Challenger 200EUX was exiting a private dirt driveway onto pavement when the driver lost control. Officials said the UTV overturned, trapping the 6-year-old passenger underneath.

The child was pronounced dead at the scene. GSP said the family has been notified.

Investigation ongoing

Georgia State Patrol’s Special Crash Reconstruction Team Investigator (SCRTI) is investigating the crash. Officials noted the incident occurred about a quarter mile north of Blarney Road.
