53-year-old armed robbery suspect found hiding under mobile home after drone, K-9 unit unsuccessful in manhunt
HAGAN, Ga. (WTOC) - The Evans County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 53-year-old Claxton man in connection with an armed robbery at Krishna Food Mart in Hagan on Thursday morning, according to a press release shared by the sheriff’s office on social media.
The release says the sheriff’s office received a call at approximately 6:43 a.m. regarding the armed robbery at the food mart. Law enforcement arrived, secured the scene, and began investigating the incident.
Video surveillance footage showed the suspect, described as a black male wearing a black long sleeve shirt or pullover with black pants and a red cloth wrapped around his head and face, arrived on foot and committed the armed robbery before fleeing.
A drone was briefly deployed but was unsuccessful due to dense fog. A K-9 unit named K-9 Daxx arrived on scene and conducted a track of the suspect through a wooded area but lost the track after crossing Highway 280 near Strickland Street, which the release says was potentially due to heavy foot traffic in the area.
Law enforcement conducted interviews with residents in the area of the flight path attempting to gather information. During the interviews, a citizen called 911 stating a male fitting the description was beside the building at the Hagan Market on the telephone and overheard him tell someone on the telephone to hurry and come get him.
The release states that as law enforcement arrived at the Hagan Market, a male fitting the description of the suspect fled on foot through Todd Padgett Housing Center. The suspect was located hiding under a mobile home on that property and taken into custody without incident.
The suspect is identified as 53-year-old Terry Hall from a Claxton address. He is facing charges of armed robbery and possession of drug related objects with other charges possible as the investigation is ongoing.
