5-year-old killed while waiting for school bus in Screven County
SYLVANIA, GA (WTOC) - [UPDATE 2:08 p.m. 9/11/2025] The Georgia State Patrol has provided an update on the child who died this morning while waiting for the school bus.
According to the GSP, on September 11, 2025, at 6:39 am, a Trooper was dispatched to a single-vehicle crash involving a 5-year-old pedestrian.
Officials say a Dodge Dart was traveling northbound on Whitehill Road in Screven County.
While waiting at the bus stop, the GSP says “the pedestrian darted into the roadway for an unknown reason and was struck.”
The 5-year-old child was transported by Screven County EMS to Optim Medical Center in Sylvania, where she succumbed to her injuries.
[ORIGINAL STORY] A young child was killed while waiting for the school bus this morning in Screven County in the Whitehill Road area, WTOC has confirmed.
WTOC spoke to the Screven County Sheriff’s Office after a caller provided information related to the child being hit by a vehicle while waiting for the bus.
The Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the event occurred and that the child was struck by another vehicle, but has not yet provided additional details.
