3 crash deaths, 38 DUIs reported statewide over Christmas holiday travel period, Georgia DPS says
ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Three people have died in vehicle crashes across Georgia and dozens have been arrested for driving under the influence since the start of the Christmas holiday travel period, according to the state Department of Public Safety (DPS).
DPS, which oversees the Georgia State Patrol, defines the Christmas holiday travel period as between 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve and 11:59 p.m. Sunday.
On Christmas Day, the department said there were three crash deaths reported by all law enforcement agencies statewide.
Twelve people were injured by crashes, according to state troopers.
DPS reported 38 DUI arrests and four crashes that involved driving under the influence.
A total of 36 crashes have been reported by troopers since Wednesday evening. None of the crashes involved commercial vehicles.
There were also 24 citations for distracted driving and 30 seatbelt citations.
