2 juveniles shot in Atlanta townhome community while allegedly stealing packages, police say
ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Two juveniles were shot at a southwest Atlanta townhome complex while they were allegedly stealing packages, according to police.
Around 3:30 p.m., Atlanta police responded to a shooting in the Villages of Cascade complex, located off Benjamin E. Mays Drive, Chief Darin Schierbaum said Thursday night.
Officers arrived to find two teenagers with gunshot wounds.
Schierbaum said a homeowner in the complex went outside and shot the two while they were trying to steal packages.
Both teens were taken to the hospital.
One of them, a 15-year-old boy, was shot in his right foot, police said shortly after the incident.
The other gunshot victim hasn’t been identified but police believe he’s also juvenile, Schierbaum said.
Police said Thursday afternoon that the boy was taken to the hospital in critical condition after he was shot in his right arm.
On Thursday night, police said he had undergone surgery and is expected to survive.
Schierbaum said the homeowner is being interviewed by investigators at police headquarters.
In October, police said a 19-year-old man was shot and killed at the complex.
