2 collisions reported in Burton Wednesday, SCHP reports 1 fatal collision

BURTON, S.C. (WTOC) - [UPDATE] WTOC reached out to South Carolina Highway Patrol following a press release they sent us Thursday. They said the second collision Burton Fire District reported was fatal.

[ORGINAL STORY] The Burton Fire District, Beaufort County EMS and Sheriff’s Office responded to two vehicle collisions Wednesday evening, one of which resulted in critical injuries and traffic delays.

Right before 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening, Burton Fire crews said they arrived to a vehicle collision at Broad River Boulevard and Parris Island Gateway to find that a van had left the roadway and was in a ditch.

Only one vehicle was involved and no injuries, reported Burton fire officials.

Officials said just 30 minutes later, emergency crews responded to a second vehicle collision on Trask Pkwy by Garrett Smalls Road.

The second collision involved a trapped occupant who was transported to the hospital with critical injuries. South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating.

The Burton Fire District said this collision delayed traffic for over two hours.
