17-year old in custody after police chase with mom’s car ends in crash at Montgomery and Victory
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - [UPDATE ] A 17-year-old was arrested after a brief pursuit and crash that left multiple drivers with minor injuries, according to the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office.
Chatham County Sheriff Coleman said deputies first noticed the vehicle at an intersection in Liberty County after it ran a stop sign earlier Tuesday.
A deputy initially followed the car without lights and sirens, then activated emergency equipment after seeing additional traffic violations.
Deputies later learned the vehicle had been reported stolen from the suspect’s mother, and a brief chase ensued, according to the sheriff.
The sheriff said the suspect crashed the vehicle which resulted in several other cars being involved and drivers being treated for minor injuries.
No pedestrians were reported hurt.
The suspect was identified by authorities as Jebree Murphy, 17.
Coleman said Murphy attempted to run from the scene but was taken into custody and transported to a hospital.
Murphy will be charged as an adult and faces serious traffic offenses, including potential felony charges, according to the sheriff.
Roads in the area were closed for about an hour while deputies conducted their investigation.

[ORIGINAL STORY] A police chase has just ended near the McDonald’s on the corner of Victory and Montgomery and a suspect is in custody, WTOC has confirmed with the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office.

There is currently a large police presence in the area, including the Savannah Police, Chatham County Sheriff’s Office, Chatham County Fire, and EMS services.
Officials have confirmed a suspect is under arrest after an individual in a stolen car fled from police.

Sheriff Coleman of the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office is on the scene and says the man “hit a few other people” and is now under arrest.
The Savannah Police Department has closed the northbound and southbound lanes of Montgomery Street at this time.
