“Road House 2″ filming brings Hollywood back to Savannah
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Hollywood has made its return to Savannah as crews for “Road House 2” film scenes at several iconic locations across the city.
The upcoming feature film has brought extra lights, cameras and action to Savannah, with filming scheduled to continue through the end of January. Savannah residents gathered Monday at locations like Forsyth Park, hoping to catch a glimpse of the star-studded cast.
“It’s nice out, we thought we would take a walk and see if we could catch some actors and some action here,” said Victoria Erickson, a Savannah resident.
In the film, Jake Gyllenhaal returns to his role as an ex-UFC fighter. He is joined by new co-stars Dave Bautista and Aldis Hodge.
Crews will be filming at Forsyth Park, River Street and the American Legion over the next few weeks.
“We were hoping that we could run into Jake,” said Connie Huang, a local who spent her lunch break at the park.
Residents say Savannah provides an ideal setting for the production.
“It’s very classic and beautiful, I mean right now it’s January but trees are evergreen… it’s sunny, it’s just very pleasant,” Huang said.
The feature film serves as a sequel in an overall franchise reboot. The original “Road House” was released in 1989 starring Patrick Swayze.
Savannah residents are excited to see their city back on the big screen.
“It makes it fun when you watch a movie that you are familiar with the city, so we just wanted to participate in this one cause it’s a big one, Road House 2,” Erickson said.
There is no word yet on an official release date.
