‘Its growing up the walls’: Woman calls for help with moldy living conditions
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - A Savannah woman says her apartment could be making her sick after two years of living with mold.
She says it’s more than a nuisance, it’s a health risk.
When WTOC crews got to the home, the smell of mold and mildew the resident has been warning about hit them the moment they walked in.
Mold was seen in a closet, along some of the walls and on parts of her ceiling.
She says she wants someone to help.
Tammy Brown says the overwhelming smell and sight of her moldy Heron on the Bluff apartment has gone too far.
“It’s prevalent, it’s just growing up the walls,” said Brown.
These photos show the same spot in her utility closet overtime.
Brown says it’s been an issue since she moved here two years ago.
She told me she hasn’t seen a long-term solution.
“I’ve been reporting different things throughout my two years here that have been mold connected,” said Brown. “Leaky ceilings, spots in the ceilings, peely ceilings.”
“They come in and they do the patchy work, and you know, I guess to appease me, but the apartment has always smelled like mold, ”she added.
She believes the mold here is making her sick.
She says she’s been told by contractors that they’ve worked in her apartment before, when a nearby unit flooded impacting hers.
“My health is an issue and everyone’s taking it lightly,” said Brown.
These are work requests she’s put in date back to 2024.
“November of 2024, ceiling peeling from water damage,” said Brown.
Brown says she wants a solution that will last.
WTOC stopped by the leasing office to see if anything long-term was being done to help Brown.
We were referred to Osprey on the Bluff, a different property owned by the same company, about 3 minutes away.
WTOC also stopped by that property, and the property manager told us they had no comment.
Brown says with living costs continuing to climb, moving out isn’t realistic.
Our team has since reached out to the corporate office, Trion Properties, as well as Savannah Code Enforcement.
We are still waiting to hear back.
