‘Crush Reloaded’: Tybee Island ramps up security ahead of reimagined Orange Crush weekend
TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. (WTOC) - Orange Crush is returning to Tybee Island this year under a new name: Crush Reloaded.
City leaders say preparations are already underway as they expect thousands of spring breakers to visit the island. Their top priority is ensuring safety for both residents and visitors.
Officials plan to implement an emergency access lane across the island, along with checkpoints on Highway 80. Barricades will begin going up Monday, April 13.
Tybee police and city leaders shared these safety plans with the community on Thursday.
“We’re going to have checkpoints, and there will be an overwhelming police presence—not only to protect residents and local businesses, but also to ensure the safety of visitors who are here to enjoy the event,” said City Manager Brett Bell.
Crush Reloaded is scheduled for April 18 and 19. Crews will install approximately 24,000 feet of barricades by Saturday morning, and safety measures will remain in place through Sunday, April 19.
